ACOUSTIC HUB
|
|
Acoustic Hub is a music store that sells vintage acoustic instruments, with its main focus on guitars. The brand is aimed at people who truly value the unique tonal qualities of acoustic instruments from years ago. The target audience is experienced musicians, aged 40+.
I created the brand identity and UI design that will be used for the store's mobile app.

The VisionMusic has always played an important role in our lives. It is fascinating to see the way music has evolved over time. Today, we can create almost any sound we desire, using synthesizers, production and processing techniques. However, a growing number of musicians wonder if something is lost in today’s music industry. In the midst of all the glamour, have we forgotten what it is all about?
Acoustic Hub is a store that creates an environment of nostalgic contentment. When you walk in, you can expect to be transported back to a time when music was mainly acoustic. When music was a step closer to nature. This store is all about going back to basics, and is especially known for some of its proudly displayed rare vintage guitars.

The mood and feel
The values of Acoustic Hub are Simplicity, Nostalgia and Nature. I took visual inspiration keeping these values in mind. Here are a few examples of the selected imagery.
Colour Palette
From the moodboard, the common theme was the wooden, earthy feel that goes with nature. For a warm and simplistic look, I decided to use harmonious colours on the same side of the colour wheel, along with a few tints. After experimenting with the colour picker on various parts of the images above, I settled on two primary colours.
Typeface
Aligning with the values of Acoustic Hub, I wanted the main typeface of the brand to invoke nostalgia. An old style serif font works well for this purpose. Mongolian Baiti was the chosen font for the logo as it matched the balance and aesthetic of the brand. Sabon was used for the title text and Montserrat became the supporting sans serif font to be used for body text.
Logo Development
Once the typeface was chosen, I saw that the T in acoustic and the B in hub worked together to form the shape of a guitar. So I manipulated the type to result in the shape below.
This resulted in a standalone logo mark as well as a full logo. These could either be on a plain background or on a diagonal gradient using the two primary colours (when the logo is dark). Using a gradient favours the brand aesthetic as many acoustic guitars are designed with a gradient. It also adds more harmony.

Brand Applications
UI Component Library
The brand was ready to make its way into Acoustic Hub's online presence. I began the design of UI components for the mobile ecommerce app. Having a library of components ensures a standardised and consistent approach across all screens of the app.
In a future iteration, this library will be further built upon and website components would be added too. These would then be assembled as needed to create the app/ website.
