I am a designer working full time as a technology consultant. My career aspiration is to make a transition from my current industry into digital design.
My Story
Ever since I was young, I always had a passion for anything creative. I felt at home when I was sketching, painting, singing or writing poems. These interests developed throughout my life - I started writing songs and developing an art style.
Later in life, I studied engineering and computer systems. I got exposed to innovative technology, media and how we all interact in this digital age. I learnt about design and realised how much it shapes the world we live in. During my late uni years, a growing passion for the field emerged.
I realised that while art enables me to express myself, design would enable me to help others express their vision.
Design ties into the core of who I am
someone who digs deep to understand people and what motivates them
someone who is analytical and enjoys solving problems
someone who loves being creative and bringing something new into the world
To learn more about design, I have been taking on every opportunity I can in my current organisation to gain some design experience while simultaneously doing self-study and professional study. I have:
taken a lead role in communications for an internal initiative
redesigned internal webpages
designed an application that is being used to recruit graduates into the company.
self-learnt design tools like the Adobe Creative Suite and Figma and have applied this knowledge in personal projects.
Studying has been a great way to deepen my conceptual understanding of design and apply it (particularly in digital publishing and web so far), while getting critique to improve my process and execution.
I am looking ahead for bigger and better opportunities to practice my skills, deliver and make an impact.
